I do the same thing. It works like a charm, and I’ve never had a problem with a sock clogging up the drain in my washer, either. (I know someone who had to have a repairman come out and dig the lonely sock out of the pump of her upright machine!)

Ew on the drain clog! One more reason to love the idea. Glad to hear it’s working for you too.

Unfortunately this would not work for me as my daughter takes her sock off all over the house. And never takes both off at the same time! I just buy as many socks I can at consignment sales and as they get lost I pair 2 similar colored socks together. My daughter could care less at 4 so I am hoping as she gets older she will care more about her things.

Little Missmatched might be a good option for your daughter! :)

seriously? you can get your kids to throw both socks into the mesh bag EVERY time they take socks off? you have more than a good tip, you have a miracle! love the idea in theory but in reality with 5 kids and a husband, this is just a dream.

Well – I have 2 kids, which makes it much, much easier than 5!! I hang the mesh bag on the bathroom door. Then, when we go upstairs after dinner to take a bath, I am standing there. I ask them “where do your socks go?” as they are getting undressed and then when they put them in the bag, I give them a high five. So I’m doubling down on the positive reinforcement so they just get into the HABIT. :)

I use safety pins to keep pairs together
